The Roll Up technique is actually two disciplines. The first step is  fusing a glass “tile” with the desired design inserted within.  Stage two is the blowing part.

The heated tile is picked up with a small glass  disc at the end of the blowpipe and rolled up as it were.  A seam is created were the two ends of the tile meet and melt together.

Once the seam  is closed  , the actual blowing and shaping of the piece begins.  The 3 dimensional form is predetermined but the end outcome of the enclosed design is finally shaped in the blowing process.  Its always a delight to watch changes occur and the design to follow its own direction. Of course this is a very short explanation of this wonderful technique which involves so much more, and gives such a magical end result.
